Kanivu (Compassion) is one of the most prestigious and commended project implemented by Rajiv Youth Foundation. The project was conceived on the basis of the unfortunate sufferings of the HIV affected children and their families. HIV affected children have contracted the deadly disease from their parents and are thrown to the mercy of the fate for no reasons of their own. Most of them hail from poor families in which either of the parents has contracted the disease due to their unscientific sexual life. These children needs good nutrition and medical care to lead a normal life till the disease takes the toll of their life. Besides they need support for the education and other social needs.

Although the stigma reduction programmes have succeeded a lot in reducing the discrimination towards the HIV affected children, the nutritional and other needs are still needs to be attended since most of them have poor family backgrounds. Prathyasa Kendram in Manjeri run by Kerala state AIDS control society provided support to the HIV affected in the form of Drugs, but it was not in a apposition to provide care and support for nutrional maintenance of the innocent victims of HIV.

Rajiv Youth Foundation was always stood along with these unfortunates, providing them financial help needed, on association with Prathyasa Kendram. But the size and magnitude f the problem needed a much elaborate intervention and thus the project KANIVU was conceived.
